Shrink big PDFs — without uploading them

The PDFs that clog inboxes and bounce off upload limits are almost always scans and image-heavy documents: a phone-scanned contract, a photographed form, a slide deck full of screenshots. Each page is stored as a large image, so a 20-page scan can easily be 50–100MB. Mynify shrinks them in your browser — the file is never sent to a server, which matters when the document is a contract, an ID, or medical paperwork.

How it works

Mynify opens your PDF locally, re-renders each page at a sensible resolution, re-encodes it efficiently, and reassembles a fresh PDF — showing progress page by page. Because it re-renders pages, this works best on scanned and image-heavy PDFs and shrinks them a lot. For a PDF that’s already just text there may be nothing to gain, so if the result would be larger than your original, Mynify keeps your original automatically — no file ever comes out bigger than it went in.

The trade-off to know

Compressing flattens each page to an image, so the pages look identical but the text is no longer selectable or searchable. That’s exactly what makes scans compress so well. If you need to keep selectable text, hold on to your original.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

What PDFs shrink the most?

Scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs, because their bulk is high-resolution page images that Mynify downsamples and re-compresses. Text-only PDFs are usually already small — and if compression can't help, Mynify keeps your original.

Will the text stay selectable?

This tool flattens each page to a compressed image, so the result looks the same but text isn't selectable. That's the trade-off that makes scans so much smaller; keep your original if you need selectable text.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Unlike most 'compress PDF' sites, Mynify processes the file entirely in your browser — your document never leaves your device.

Is there a size limit?

No hard limit — a 100-page PDF works. Large scans just take a little longer and are best done on a laptop rather than a phone.
